Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (PPAF) is the political arm of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. PPAF's goal is to help elect pro-choice candidates and educate our supporters about the importance of reproductive health in politics. By supporting pro-choice candidates we will bring the voice of the Massachusetts pro-choice majority into the voting booths and into the State House.
Job Description: Participants will work on the campaigns of PPAF-endorsed pro-choice candidates for state office. There will be a one-week campaign training followed by deployment to a targeted campaign, and a pro-choice voter-identification project. Participants will be required to work on the assigned campaign in Massachusetts for 10 weeks. An effort will be made to place interns on a campaign near their home, however if this isn’t possible then housing will be provided.
Specific Duties:
- Attend week long training in Boston, including a hands-on direct action day at the Democratic State Nominating Convention in Lowell on June 7th.
- Actively work on campaigns of endorsed pro-choice candidates
- Identify a pre-determined number of pro-choice voters in assigned district, working with local activists and using various organizing tactics.
- Identify potential members of PPAF
- Attend outreach events and collect support for PPLM’s legislative initiatives
- Engage new activists in campaign organizing
- Maintain regular contact with PPAF supervisor
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications: Successful applicants will have experience and/or sincere interest in grassroots action for change. Commitment to reproductive freedom and Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund’s mission a must. Willingness to meet new people and convey this mission to supporters. Applicants must be geographically flexible, as campaign placement may not be finalized until training. Every effort will be made to place applicants with campaigns that match their existing housing accommodations; however flexibility is critical. Applicants must have a car. Professional training will be provided.
Ideal Commitment: Ideally 35hr./week, will strongly consider applicants willing to commit to at least 25hr./week unpaid
